About Us

Somos Pilar y Anais, the mother-daughter duo behind Piel Morena Imports. We source and celebrate artisan-made goods and decor from Mexico.
Piel Morena translates to dark or brown skin - something Pilar ensured Anais was always proud of, along with her rich cultura.
In 2021, Anais and her husband had a Dia De Los Muertos wedding reception. With the help of familia in Mexico, dinnerware and decorations were shipped from Oaxaca and Morelos. What were left over pieces from the wedding, turned into a love of sharing our cultura. We began meeting and working with artisans across the country to curate beautiful home decor and kitchenware and officially launched in September 2022.

  • About Pilar

    Pilar was born in Mexico City and grew up in Brownsville, Texas where she met her husband. After getting married, they moved to Austin and called it their forever home. Pilar taught for 40 years and is now a full-time abuelita. She is a sister, wife, mother, friend, and breast cancer survivor.

  • About Anais

    Anais was born and raised in Austin, Texas. After graduating college, she worked in the communications & community engagement field before committing to Piel Morena full-time. She is a daughter, wife, a mom, and sourdough hobbyist.
